The Molecular Diagnostics Laboratory is operated as a reference laboratory by
the Department of Pathology at
the University of Texas Health Science Center at
San Antonio. The laboratory provides support services for
faculty and staff of the Health Science Center as well as services to outside
entities on a fee-for-service basis.
The laboratory develops and performs molecular diagnostic tests for nucleic
acid targets found in a variety of settings in medicine. The primary focus of
the laboratory is hematopathology; a selection of genetic and infectious
disease tests are also performed.
The Molecular Diagnostics Laboratory is fully accredited by and participates in
the College of American Pathologists (CAP)
inspection and accreditation programs. Through the deemed status granted to the
CAP, the laboratory is also accredited by the Health Care Financing Administration through the Clinical
Laboratory Improvement Act (CLIA) for the performance of high complexity
testing (current certificates of accreditation may be viewed here: CAP , CLIA ).
For clients outside of the Health Science Center or outside of the San Antonio
area, we provide a free courier service for specimen transport.
